A forced sentence leads to a reckless passion....... Hadley When my husband walked out on me over a year ago, it devastated me. When the divorce papers came, it killed me. When we had to sell our house, it broke me. But then he moved in with his new flavor of the month and told our daughter his new woman wasn't into children. That pissed me off. Now Riley feels abandoned, and I can't make it better; no matter how hard I try. I'm desperate to help her adjust to the loss of a male figure in her life. The companion program that matches adults up with children who have loneliness and abandonment issues is my last hope. The counselors tell me he's doing community service hours, and I ask to sit in on his meetings with Riley. The minute I see him astride the matte black Harley, I know neither my nor Riley's life will ever be the same again. Trick Community Service. Two words I should be thankful for, but I'm not. I resent the hours it's away from building my business. The two previous kids I'd been paired up with didn't work out because their mothers were more interested in getting in my bed. This next match with a little girl is my last hope. Unless this kid works out, I'm destined to serve time. When they push her into the room wearing pink converse with a black dress, her crazy curls barely held back by the barrette in her hair, and studious glasses on her face, I can tell she's scared - of new people, of change, of being pushed aside. Something inside of me breaks, and I want this girl to feel wanted again. What I'm unprepared for is meeting her mom. The second our hands touch, there are fireworks, bright lights, and a picture of the future I could one day have. The future I've never allowed myself to wish for. Community service becomes more than a chore, more than time I resent for being taken away from me. In the months that follow, I realize they're just like me they've been abandoned, left behind by the world, forgotten by those who should love them. Thanks to the one last hope in both our lives - we found the light in the darkness we'd been searching for.

Trick is at the end of his rope. Assigned by his parole officer to a 'Big Brother' type community service, he has to spend time with a child who lacks a male figure in their life - or face going back to jail. Having gone through multiple kids that didn't work out, this is his last chance. All he wants is to do his time in the program -while escaping the claws of over interested mothers- and get back to his life.

Hadley doesn't know what to do. Recently divorced and set adrift with her daughter by her unloving ex who traded her and Riley in for a newer, younger and childless model. Her main concern is Riley who has taken the blow of feeling unwanted and not having a male role model. On suggestion of a case worker Hadley reluctantly enrolls Riley in the same program as Trick. The rest they say is history.

This is my confession: I have to be honest here. Trick might just be my favorite LB title to date. The combination of Hadley, Trick and little Riley was clutch. Seeing their relationship evolve and to watch Trick 'fall in love' with little Riley is heartwarming.

I loved the description of this story. It has that pull to it that make you wonder what your going to get into. This isn't my first book by this author and I feel that the writing just gets better and better.

I really liked Hadley. She had so much love for her daughter and that paired with working her butt off and doing everything she could to make her daughters life good, that made me love her. As a mother myself I was able to connect with her on a deeper level.

Trick didn't want his past to define him and worked so hard to make something better of him self and on top of that, he was YUMMY! Besides his looks and demeanor, he really was a good guy.

Riley had a big role in this books and I loved her! She is such a sweetheart, and she is the same age as my oldest and she reminded me of them once she opened up. My heart broke for her and what she had to go through, but Trick made it all better even if it wasn't an easy road.

How to describe the plot with out ruining it for others...... I'm not sure. It was beautiful and heartbreaking. We learn more about him in the first half then we do her. The ending was super cute and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

One thing I didn't like was how some things were redundant. It felt like they kept repeating them selves on certain things.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. The plot was different and we get a man with a child. That's one of my weakness! I loved the duel POV and getting to see and feel both main characters internal struggle. I was sad at the lack of secondary characters though. 4.5 stars #2OCCJD
Hadley and her daughter Riley have been on their own since a bitter divorce. Basically abandoned by her ex, Hadley is afraid that her daughter is lacking in male interaction. Enter Trick. Sentenced to community service after his release from prison, he is determined to get his life back on track. Unfortunately the mothers have been more interested in his assets than the time he is spending with their children. Hadley won't be an issue because she is definitely not interested in acquiring a man...right?! What follows is a man learning to live again through the love of a child and a woman that learns she can form new dreams) I loved this book so much and recommend it to everyone!
Oh, where do I start?? Well, I guess all I can say is that I'm officially on a Trick kick. What does that mean? It means that I am head over heels for Laramie Briscoe's new standalone Trick and the wonderful characters she created. Trick is a perfectly imperfect man who is trying to turn his life around after making and paying for more than a few mistakes. Insert single mom Hadley who is trying to rebuild her life after her husband decides he no longer wants to be a husband to her or a father to their daughter, Riley. Hadley is the epitome of a strong woman who is trying to teach her daughter how hard work and determination will allow them to have the life that she envisioned for them, without a man and to love Riley enough that she doesn't feel like she's missing out being raised by one parent. Trick becomes a mentor to Riley through a community outreach program as a condition of his probation and builds a relationship with both mother and daughter. Be prepared to swoon when this rough around the edges biker and mechanic works hard to try to earn the trust and hearts of not only Riley but Hadley too.
